Swedish Toxicology Sciences Research Center (Swetox) is a center for interdisciplinary research and education in toxicology sciences based on a collaboration between eleven Swedish universities, i.e. University of Gothenburg, Karlstad University, Karolinska Institutet, Royal Institute of Technology, Linköping University, Lund University, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Stockholm University, Umeå University, Uppsala University and Örebro University, with its hub at Swetox Södertälje.


The vision of Swetox is “A chemical safe world”. The aim is to contribute to the development of safe chemicals, a sustainable environment and improved human health. Swetox also aims to facilitate academic education in toxicology sciences in Sweden and to meet societal needs for improved decision making in the areas of chemicals, health and environment.

The position
The successful candidate will be granted a permanent position as Senior Research Fellow at one of the participating universities, but is expected to work 80% at the facility in Södertälje and 20% at the university. The university welcomes the candidate to collaboration with senior scientists at a department relevant for the EDC-2020. A probation period of 6 months is applied for permanent positions.

Areas of responsibility
This part of EDC-2020 will help put the research on endocrine disrupters into a regulatory perspective and will contribute to communication of results in a manner that will be useful to decision makers and policy development in Sweden and the European Union. The position focuses on research in one or several of the following areas:

  • Processes for identifying and assessing EDCs based on all available data, including development of new weight-of-evidence approaches.
  • Evaluation of reliability and relevance of research (non-GLP) studies in regulatory risk assessment systematic and transparent handling of uncertainty and expert judgment in risk assessment.
  • Use of knowledge on endocrine mechanism and mode-of-action in risk assessment development of alternative test methods (according to the 3R principles) and test strategies.
  • Strategies considering low-dose and critical windows of exposure during developmentstrategies on mixture effects and assessment of groups of substances having the same mode of action.

Entry requirements
To be eligible for the position you should hold a PhD in regulatory toxicology/ecotoxicology or related field of science and document at least two years of independent postdoctoral research at completing evaluation of the applicants. You have well documented experience with toxicology/ecotoxicology models. Previous documented experience in risk assessment, knowledge in European chemicals legislation and alternative test methods is a merit.

In addition, documented pedagogical experience and other communication skills relevant to the position are requested. The successful applicant should have personal qualities to promote collaboration and team building. The work will be carried out in an international interdisciplinary environment. Therefore, very good oral and written communication skills in English are required.
