Karolinska Institutet, Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology

Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations. MTC has recently moved to Biomedicum, a new premise offering exciting scientific opportunities.

The work of Francesca Chiodi and her our group aims at understanding mechanisms of T and B cell damage during HIV infection, including abnormal immune activation. The causes underlying such dysfunctions are poorly understood but other mechanisms, in addition to direct virus replication, may account for depletion of T cells. We focus on studying the mechanisms leading to immune dysfunctions during HIV infection and how antiretroviral therapy helps to revert the impaired phenotype and function of T and B cells.

A post-doctoral positions is available for a motivated researcher with experience in the field of T cell immunology. The project will be focused on T cell immunology during HIV infection and the effect of antiretroviral therapy on T cell function and inflammation.

Entry requirements
Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is a scientist who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. The person to be employed has experience in the field of T cell immunology and infection immunology. The  candidate masters advanced flow cytometry techniques and molecular biology methods.

Fluency in written and spoken English is a requirement. The work will be mostly conducted at the Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology of the Karolinska Institutet.
