Description of research group and project
We are looking for a highly motivated post-doc with an interest in hantavirus molecular virology. The project concerns hantavirus-replication and hantavirus-mediated deregulation of normal cellular functions. The studies involve molecular biology, cell biology and molecular virology, conducted in a Biosafety level 3-laboratory. The Klingström Lab is located in Stockholm/Sweden and currently consists of 6 people. The overall research interests of the Klingström lab are studies of hantaviruses, the diseases they cause in humans, and how hantavirus-mediated effects on infected cells and our immune system are involved in pathogenesis. The studies are translational, combining experimental virology, molecular biology and immunology with analyses of patient material and register studies.

The successful candidate will study molecular aspects of hantavirus replication, and hantavirus-mediated effects on cellular functions. The postdoctoral fellow will be required to execute a variety of molecular biology, and virology methods including in vitro infections with pathogenic hantaviruses in a BSL3-laboratory, including growing cells, infecting them and sample them for various methods, including immune precipitation, immunofluorescence, Western blot, qPCR, RNA seq/NGS. The project also involves molecular biology/cloning, transient transfection/overexpression in mammalian cells and bioinformatic analysis of RNA and mass spec data. The postdoctoral fellow is expected to plan, execute, and analyze experiments in an independent manner and contribute scientifically to the group, including supervising students.

Entry requirements
The candidate must hold a PhD equivalent to a Swedish doctoral degree in the field of virology with publications in internationally renowned peer-reviewed journals. Earlier postdoc-experience is positive. The candidate should be self-motivated, have good communications skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement. Candidates should have a strong, documented background in hantavirus research in a BSL3-laboratory, and be experienced in biosafety work concerning BSL3-laboratories. The ideal candidate has extensive experience in hantavirus research, molecular biology and protein and RNA assays. In connection with the appointment of the post-doctoral position, we will accord special weight to previous pathogenic hantavirus research experience, academic skills, a strong dedication, and excellent communication skills. Work within the areas for the announcement is strongly considered as an additional qualification.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A letter of intention (max 1 page), that shall include a description of previous research in BSL3-laboratory on pathogenic hantaviruses
  2. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  3. A complete list of publications
  4. A summary of current work (no more than one page)
  5. Verifications for crediting of illness, military service, work for labour unions or student organisations, parental leave or similar circumstances

The application is to be submitted through the Varbi recruitment system.
