Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för laboratoriemedicin

The Department of Laboratory Medicine consists of 6 divisions and is active in many areas of Laboratory Medicine. The department is involved in advanced basic scientific, clinical and epidemiological research. The department is one of the largest departments of education at Karolinska Institutet.

The Division of Clinical Immunology conducts research on several aspects of human immunology with a strong focus on developmental immunology, immunotherapy and pathologies associated with the immune system. Qiang Pan-Hammarström’s research group: https://ki.se/en/labmed/research-group-qiang-pan-hammarstrom

The projects within Dr. Pan-Hammarström’s group focus on the molecular mechanism of immunoglobulin class switch recombination (CSR), genetics of primary immunodeficiency and B cell lymphomagenesis. The available postdoctoral position deal with:

1). Identification of new forms of primary immunodeficiency through linkage analysis and exome sequencing, with focus on late B cell deficiencies.

2). Functional characterization of patients with defects in late B cell development. This may involve using iPSC as models to study B cell development in healthy individuals and in patients with primary immunodeficiency.

3). The fellow is expected to assume a major role in the writing of scientific publications and grant applications.

Entry requirements
Scholarships for carrying out postdoctoral research may be granted to persons living in other countries who come to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships from KI. Furthermore, the candidate should possess excellent communicating and writing skills in English.

Type of scholarship
Scholarship for two years, with possibility to extend for one year with standard salary. Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies.  This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years within four years after the receipt of a PhD or the equivalent, is tax-exempt.
