Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Our research group, headed by Prof. Sir David Lane, is focusing on the development of new therapies, new discoveries in the p53 pathway and cancer biology. At the department of microbiology, Tumor and Cell biology there is a bigger constellation of researchers within cellular immunology, which is well renowned and leading within basic cancer and immunology research.

The candidate will be supervised by Professor David Lane. The research activities of the lab are based at the newly established bioscience hub SciLifeLab, where we also are neighbors with the national super resolution facility Advanced Light Microscopy. For more information about the research see

The successful candidate will be part of a multidisciplinary, collaborative research team active within the fields of cancer drug discovery, tumor biology and cancer immunotherapy. The candidate is expected to take a leading role in experimental design and perform in vivo tumor experiments, ex vivo and in vitro experiments analyse data and interpret the results.

Our team is diverse in terms of methods we apply and the candidate will work in collaboration with researchers to employ advanced methods such as advanced flow cytometry, mass spectrometry and advanced microscopy to address questions at hand. Willingness to learn new methods relevant for the project and assuming a leading role in compiling manuscripts is expected. The candidate will actively participate in lab meetings and present results at national and international conferences.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc.

The candidate should have a PhD in biology or biomedical sciences with strong background in immunology or immunology-oncology. Hands-on work experience with in vivo and ex vivo mouse models of disease (immunology, immuno-oncology or autoimmune diseases), multi-colour flow cytometry, in vitro culture of immune cells, both primary and cell lines and assays such as ELISA, ELISPOT or CBA is mandatory.

The project involves generating and analyzing ‘omics’ datasets, therefore practical understanding and application of statistical methods to experimental design and outcome measures are required. Must possess good oral and written communication skills. Experience in working with in vivo imaging system (IVIS)  and writing ethical applications is desirable. A strong publication record and demonstrated ability to conceive, design and execute projects in essential.
