Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för neurovetenskap, Meletis

The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 researchers, of which 24 are full professors and 65 PhD students.

Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.

The research group of Konstantinos Meletis investigates the function of neurons in the basal ganglia in motivated behaviors. The research is based on a systems neuroscience approach to dissect the function of neural circuits and neuron subtypes in controlling behavior.

The postdoc will be responsible for performing experiments in transgenic rodents using electrophysiology, optogenetics, and in vivo imaging of neuronal activity during behavioral assays.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

The applicant must have extensive research experience in neuroscience, with expertise in circuit neuroscience using molecular biology, anatomical approaches, and electrophysiology. Experience working with transgenic mice and viral tracing is required.

The applicant must have demonstrated a strong publication track-record with at least on first author publication in a peer-reviewed neuroscience journal.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoc with excellent communication skills and good ability to work individually as well as in a team.

Application process
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:

  1. A complete curriculum vitae, including date of the thesis defence, title of the thesis, previous academic positions, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, and committee work
  2. A complete list of publications
  3. A summary of current work (no more than one page)
