Center of Neurodevelopmental Disorders at Karolinska Institutet (KIND)

The Department is organized in 10 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Pediatric Endocrinology, Pediatric Surgery, Neuropediatrics, Pediatric Oncology, Neonatology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Neuropsychiatry (KIND), Reproductive and Perinatal Health. The divisions have separate scientific profiles and vary in size and have several research groups, dealing with both basic and clinical science.

KIND is a competence center for research, development and education within the area of developmental psychopathology. The center is established in collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm County Council aiming at conducting high-end basic and applied research with special focus on neuropsychiatric disorders. The latter includes identifying valid stratification biomarkers of neurodevelopmental disorders and gaining new insights regarding their etiology. In collaboration with the Department of Medical Epidemiology and Biostatistics (MEB), and a multitude of national and international collaborators, KIND conducts twin research, targeting genetic vs environmental contributions to behavioral and neuronal phenotypes of neurodevelopmental disorders.

We seek an assistant professor at KIND to develop and conduct studies on brain imaging (especially resting state connectivity) and behavioral outcomes in association with autism and autistic traits using a within-twin pair design. Herein, an area of specific interest is synesthesia and sensory processing in twins with and without autism, and twin-model statistics to test and disentangle genetic and environmental contributions to the relationship between autism/autistic traits and synesthesia/sensory symptoms.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

The applicant must have a PhD in psychology or a comparable area of science, and additional 4 years of postdoctoral studies. Furthermore, documented experience in functional neuroimaging analyses, and experience in advanced statistical analyses (preferably in R or Matlab) are mandatory. Experiences in the fields of twin-model analyses, autism and/or synesthesia research are beneficial. The position requires advanced English language competencies, a broad research methods repertoire, convincing scientific writing, and excellent administration and coordination skills.
