Systems microscopy of cancer cell migration – an SSF-supported interdisciplinary network project
Systems microscopy of cancer cell migration is a five year interdisciplinary network project supported by the Swedish Strategic Research Foundation (SSF) program on systems biology. This project aims at elucidating how cellular signaling and applied forces are coordinated to control cancer cell migration and involves technology development, cell biology, advanced microscopy, image analysis, bioinformatics, multivariate statistics and mathematical modelling. This collaborative project is coordinated by Karolinska Institutet and also includes Uppsala University and Lund University, as well as the biotech companies Sprint Bioscience and Olink Bioscience.

Department of Biosciences and Nutrition at Karolinska Institutet
The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. The department offers an international study and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel.

Description of project and work
This postdoc project will be conducted in the research group of professor Staffan Strömblad (http://ki.se/en/bionut/cell-biology-of-cancer-staffan-stromblad). Our group is interested in cancer biology, with particular emphasis on cell migration, cell-matrix interactions and cellular signaling. The project will focus on analyzing how cell migration plasticity is controlled by the underlying cellular machinery. The successful applicant will participate in an interdisciplinary network project supported by the Swedish Strategic Research Foundation described above. Within this project, this postdoc will lead a study on plasticity in cancer cell migration that will be conducted in close collaboration with Uppsala University and involve live cell microscopy, image analysis, single cell expression profiling, bioinformatics, mathematical statistics and modelling. This postdoc project provides opportunities for growth and development as an independent researcher, as there will be possibilities for initiating new research directions.
