The Department of Medicine, Huddinge, conducts preclinical and clinical research in a variety of areas and undergraduate and graduate education. The department is internationally oriented and consists of seven units with a total of nearly 60 research groups, including three research centres. Our ambition is to be the leading department for medical research and education.

The Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine, HERM, is located within the department of medicine, Karolinska Institute University Hospital, Huddinge. HERM is an interdisciplinary translational research environment and educational platform dedicated to hematology, immunology and regenerative medicine. HERM has at present 16 research groups and approximately 100 researchers and students.

The announced position will be placed in Eva Hellström Lindberg ́s research group, which has a strong focus on cellular and molecular disease mechanisms in the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). Tissue biobanking and very active international collaboration are important components of the research program.

We are looking for a person with profound knowledge of the disease and deep experience of working with primary human cells; stem cell biology, advanced FACS sorting, and genetics (including next generation sequencing, digital PCR, RNA sequencing). The person should have competence to manage and analyze data. Importantly, the person should be able to independently train and mentor PhD students and junior post docs. Part of the time will be allocated for grant writing and independent projects. The person applying for this position is not expected to start an independent research group.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

The applicant must have completed a postdoc period with good results. It is important the applicant has published within the field. Profound knowledge about a broad spectrum of cellular and genetic methods is essential. A positive and collaborative attitude is a pre-requisite for working in the MDS research group.
