Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för biovetenskaper och näringslära, BEA (FFA)

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Research engineer
BEA, the core facility for bioinformatics and expression analysis, located at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition, Karolinska Institutet is now looking for a full time research engineer.

BEA - www.bea.ki.se - is a national genomic service facility that provides an extensive repertoire of genomic technologies to ongoing research projects principally at the Karolinska Institutet but also at other Swedish universities. The services include genomic analysis mainly based on the Affymetrix, Agilent, Illumina and ABI platforms for microarrays, next generation sequencing (NGS) and qPCR. Using the platforms above the core facility is responsible for performing high throughput assays including gene expression profiling, genotyping, methylation analysis, chromatin immunoprecipitation and sequencing. Our services are very broad and ranges from experimental planning to bioinformatic support.

Description of work
The position is a permanent position and is available from September 2017 at the BEA laboratory located in the Novum building at the Karolinska Institutet South Campus in Huddinge. Today the group includes four research engineers and two bioinformaticians.

The successful candidate will be responsible for various sequencing and microarray based expression and genotyping analyses. This includes all steps from assisting in experimental design, DNA/RNA purification, sample preparation and labeling, sequencing library preparation, gene expression/genotyping analysis by microarray and NGS including data analysis.

The position will also include method development and validation, responsibility for quality management and coordination of the quality work. A limited amount of education is also part of the responsibility to spread knowledge about services available through the core facility.

The successful applicant should have a doctoral degree in molecular biology or equivalent. Experience of working with DNA and/or RNA based high throughput functional genomics technologies is required. Experience of working with the Affymetrix and/or Illumina platforms is an advantage. Knowledge in robotic liquid handling and laboratory automation is also an advantage. Experience of quality management in a laboratory environment is also desired. In general the applicant should have very good computer skills and experience in statistical analyses and software.

The work is performed in close collaboration within the unit and with our customers. Good communication skills in both Swedish and English are thus necessary. The successful candidate should show an interest in employing new technologies, be used to pursue lab work requiring high precision and be used to working in a dynamic environment with deadlines to meet. We put great emphasis on personal suitability and the ability to work independently.

Application process
The application is to be submitted on the MyNetwork recruitment system.

The application should be in pdf format and contain a maximum of three A4 pages in total and must contain;
