Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för neurobiologi, vårdvetenskap och samhälle

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2017 of 470 million SEK. It comprises eight divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The Division of Neurogeriatrics belongs to the internationally leading Center for Alzheimer Research. We are seeking an Assistant professor who will work in the research group led by Angel Cedazo-Minguez, which is located in NOVUM, beside the Karolinska University Hospital at Huddinge. The group currently consists of 14 people, students and postdocs, with different backgrounds, educationally as well as culturally.

The assistant professor will work in different projects related to aging and Alzheimer’s disease, always with a strong focus on advanced neurobehavioral studies and molecular studies.

A major task for the applicant will be to contribute to the ongoing research activities at the Division of Neurogeriatrics, conceptually as well as methodologically. In particular, the person is expected to take an active role in neurobehavioral studies of different mice models for cholesterol metabolism and Alzheimer’s disease.

The successful candidate should show a high level of responsibility and independency and be able to work in a team and be willing to supervise students. Moreover, the candidate is expected to have broad knowledge and expertise in Alzheimer’s disease research, data gathering and analysis as well as manuscript and grant preparation. Help with coordination of projects within the division and writing grant applications are also duties included as part of the position.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.

We seek for a scientist with a minimum of four years postdoc experience and a long-standing background in the field of animal behavior as well as Alzheimer’s disease and dementia research.

This project involves a wide range of molecular, cellular and transgenic technologies and has a strong translational focus. Strong expertise in molecular biology is required. Additionally, skills in neurobehavioral studies in mice and rats (in particular spatial and non spatial memory tests) and brain surgery are required.

Bases of assessment
We stress scientific expertise when assessing applicants. A strong experience in both animal behavioral studies and molecular studies within aging and AD research is required. Coordinating animal facility work and teaching animal behavior is considered a strong merit.

Application process
An application must contain the following documents in English: Curriculum vitae, qualifications and description of planned research, presented in accordance with Karolinska Institutet’s qualifications portfolio (http://ki.se/qualificationsportfolio).

The application is to be submitted through the MyNetwork recruitment system.
