ICMC is a research collaboration between Karolinska Institutet and AstraZeneca.
The goal of the centre is to identify and validate new target molecules within the cardiovascular area and metabolic diseases. Special focus is placed on the strategic research areas: Cardiac Regeneration, Islet Health (Diabetes) and Diabetic Nephropathy.
This position offers direct collaborations with the Pharma Industry (i.e. AstraZeneca).
The successful applicant will work on single cell RNA analysis of specimens isolated from mouse and human healthy and atherosclerotic arterial wall samples. The work will be performed in the laboratory of Dr. Johan LM Björkegren who specializes in large-scale omics (Big Data) analysis. Part of the work description is handling and breeding of mouse models susceptible to cardiovascular disease through genetic modifications leading to elevated levels of plasma lipoproteins. The focus of the work will be to breed these mice and together with human arterial wall samples obtain RNA sequence data from key cell types of the arterial wall including endothelial cells, smooth muscle cells and inflammatory cells such as macrophages. Other forms of omic data may also be generated including proteomics and epigenetic DNA methylation data. Working in close collaboration with bioinforamtic team in the lab., the applicant will also be involved in basic analysis of the data and thus, previous experience thereof is favorable, although not required.
We are looking for a Researcher who has a strong work ethic, passion for solving difficult questions & challenges with the ability to design, plan, perform, and interpret original experiments in an independent and innovative environment. The candidates should have high integrity and be aware of the multicultural setting they are going to be located at.
It is essential that the candidate has published at least one paper in an excellent peer-reviewed journal, preferably as a first author. Strong background in molecular and cell biology, and particularly, vast experience of surgical and histological handling and analysis of tissues and preferably sorting of individual tissue cells obtained from genetically altered animals and/or humans. Experience of next generation sequencing and library preps using established technologies such as Illumina. Know-how of basic bioinformatic analysis. Necessary entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as postdoctoral research fellow if he or she has obtained a PhD in Medical/Biomedical sciences no more than three years before the last date of employment as postdoc.
The candidate shall have extensive experiences and strong interest to continue working with genetically modified mouse models.
