Department of Medicine and Center of Molecular Medicine
We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join the group of Liv Eidsmo as a Postdoctoral Fellow to investigate mechanisms of tissue resident T cells in healthy and diseases human skin. Tissue resident T cells is one part of the immunologic barrier in the skin but has also been attributed disease driving properties. We have a particular interest in T cell driven chronic and recurring inflammatory skin diseases. This project will follow up on previous studies in our laboratory (Cheuk et al. Immunity 2017) with focus on basic biology of tissue resident T cells in healthy human skin and how these cells contribute to tissue pathology in chronic inflammatory skin diseases. We use clinical material for ex vivo, in vitro and xenotransplant in vivo model systems. The postdoctoral fellow will be immersed in a successful, interdisciplinary collaboration between laboratory head Dr. Liv Eidsmo and collaborators Dr. Yenan Bryceson, HERM, Karolinska Institutet and Dr. Keira Melican, Neuroscience Karolinska, all Stockholm, Sweden.
Entry requirements, skills, and personal qualities
We welcome a creative, hard working and enthusiastic team-player in our group and expect the postdoctoral fellow to drive their own project forward and develop necessary technical skills. We seek a highly motivated candidate with a demonstrated record of scientific accomplishment at the graduate or postdoctoral level. A PhD in Immunology, Cell Biology or related sciences is required (2013 or later), ideally with proven skills in cellular immunology research. The ideal candidate will have extensive training in molecular biology and cell biology. Prior experience in mouse and human cellular immunology, including flow cytometry of tissue derived cells is desired. Applicants should have first author publications in recognized peer-reviewed journals. Excellent spoken and written English is a requirement. Emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
The candidate is expected to participate in formulating and testing scientific hypothesis with experimental work, data analysis, presentations and preparation of publications. We are a small laboratory, in which collaborative efforts within and outside the group are expected. The studies will include work on patient material, cell lines and primary skin-derived cells and may be extended to animal model systems and handling of laboratory animals. Methodology will range from advanced cell sorting to cutting-edge molecular and imaging techniques. All team-members participates in routine work within the research team, group-meetings, seminars, national and international research meetings. The candidate is expected to supervise students and be involved in some administrative tasks in the lab. ou will be responsible for your own academic, research and administrative activities, adapt existing and develop new scientific techniques, test hypotheses and analyze data from a variety of sources.Besides working on existing lab projects, postdocs are also encouraged to start their own new projects. Our aim is to provide a supportive environment for development of independent scientists.
Scholarships for carrying out postdoctoral research may be granted to persons living in other countries who come to Sweden with the intention of only staying in Sweden for all or part of their postdoctoral education at KI. Persons who are resident in Sweden and/or have carried out all or part of their academic education at KI or some other educational institution in Sweden cannot be considered for scholarships from KI. The head of the department determines whether their previous training and scholarly qualifications correspond to a Swedish PhD or higher.
Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent. This educational scholarship is tax-exempt. The amount is set for twelve months at a time and is paid out on a monthly basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
