The Division is focused on translational research in neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer disease (AD).
The Project and the Research Group
The project aims to use AD and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) patient derived cell models for genomic, transcriptomic and proteomic analyses in order to identify modifiers of disease onset. Fibroblasts from AD and FTD mutation carriers who have developed as well as escaped disease will be transfected with lentiviruses and converted to neurons in cell culture. Cell extracts of DNA, RNA and proteins will be harvested and analyzed at SciLife Lab. Retrieved data will be bioinformatically interrogated to find differences between cells derived from mutation carriers with disease and mutation carriers who have escaped disease i.e. cases of reduced penetrance. Validation of results will be performed on patient cerebrospinal fluid, serum and plasma as well as post mortem brain tissue. The position will be held in the Prof Graff research group called “Translational genetics of neurodegenerative diseases” which sits at the interface of clinical and experimental research. The research focus is on the genetics of FTD and AD and currently the group has about 10 members including professor, postdoc, PhD students and technicians. The group is also responsible for the Brain Bank at KI.
The postdoc candidate is expected to have a strong drive to pursue experimental research and bioinformatics analyses and have good communicative skills. The projects are pursued in collaboration with several research groups, and good collaborative skills are necessary as well as ability for independent work. Very good ability to speak and write English is also a requirement.
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances. A PhD in biomedicine, cell biology, biotechnology or similar topic is required. The postdoc to be recruited needs to have strong experience of working with neuronal cell models, in particular using reprogramming and differentiation protocols, and a good knowledge of neurodegenerative diseases. Experience from bioinformatic –omics analyses, immuno-histochemistry and immunofluorescence methods and studies using lenti viruses for transfection of human cells is qualifying.
