The Department of Medicine, Huddinge conducts preclinical and clinical research in a variety of areas and undergraduate and graduate education. The department is internationally oriented and consists of seven units with about 50 teams.
The research group
Dr. Sidinh Luc was recently recruited from Boston Children’s Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Harvard Medical School to establish her research group and research program at the Karolinska Institutet. The group is located at the new Center for Hematology and Regenerative Medicine (HERM) at the Institute of Medicine, Huddinge (MedH), Karolinska Institutet. The main research focus of the Luc laboratory is to study the function and epigenetic regulation of hematopoietic stem cells in normal development using genetic mouse modeling, and cell and molecular biological methods on small cell numbers (Luc et al., Cell Rep. 2016 Sep 20;16(12):3181-94; Luis et al., Nat Immunol. 2016 Dec;17(12):1424-1435. At HERM, the group is part of a highly interactive research environment within cellular and molecular regulation of hematopoiesis, which includes experts in the field such as the laboratory of Dr. Sten Eirik Jacobsen, who was recently recruited from University of Oxford.
Description of the project
Applicants are invited to submit applications for a two-year postdoctoral scholarship.
In this recruitment there are up to two positions available, if certain conditions are fulfilled.
The project will focus on identifying the epigenetic regulators important for HSC lineage commitment. The position provides an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to apply cutting-edge technology; utilizing next-generation sequencing and CRISPR/Cas genome editing to study HSCs with the goal to identify these regulators. The work will involve cell and molecular biological assays, as well as in vivo mouse experiments.
We are seeking a highly talented and enthusiastic researcher with a Ph.D. degree and a background in molecular biology, as well as a strong track record (evidence of one or more high impact publications in a relevant research field). Training in international leading laboratories is a merit.
We welcome candidates with extensive experience in performing cell and molecular biological assays. Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 or other genome editing techniques, next-generation sequencing, ChIPseq, especially with small cell numbers, is strongly preferable. Experience with state-of-the-art flow cytometry and hematopoiesis is a merit.
The successful candidate should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, organizational skills, and the ability to work productively and dynamically in a team. Self-motivation and the ability to stay on top of the relevant research field is an absolute requirement. Applicants must be able to integrate well into the international and multidisciplinary research environment. Personal suitability will be a strong selection criterion.
Excellent knowledge of spoken and written English is a requirement.
Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their thesis defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee, or equivalent body, must be submitted with the application.
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.
