We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to join the group of Professor Camilla Sjögren. The Sjögren team focuses on the role of DNA topology in chromosome dynamics and regulation using Saccharomyces cerevisiae as model organism. The team consists of two post doctors and two students of multiple nationalities, and is affiliated to two departments, Dept. of Bioscience and Nutrition (http://ki.se/en/bionut/startpage) and Dept. Cell and Molecular Biology (http://ki.se/en/cmb/startpage). The group is also associated to the Center for Innovative Medicine, CIMED (http://cimed.ki.se/). The successful applicant will thus be part of multiple networks of international recognized scientists, and have access to up to date infrastructure and facilities.
The project aims to disclose the role of DNA topology in transcription regulation using yeast model organisms. The project stems from published and ongoing research on the so called Smc5/6 complex, and for a detailed scientific background, we refer to the following articles: Jeppsson, K., et al., Nat Rev Mol Cell Biol, 2014. 15: p. 601, Jeppsson et al., PLoS Genet., 2014; doi: 10.1371/journal.pgen.1004680, Kegel, A., et al., Nature, 2011, 471: p. 392, and Decorsiere, A., et al., Nature, 2016, 531: p. 386. In short, the project will determine if and how the level of DNA supercoiling actively controls gene expression. This includes construction of experimental models for analysis of transcription, DNA supercoiling, and chromatin composition in vivo. Depending on results and the interests of the successful applicant, in vitro biochemical analyses, and/or genetic screens to identify novel factors regulating the DNA topology/transcription interplay can also be performed.
The successful applicant is expected to lead the project in collaboration with the PI and other members of the group. This includes planning and execution of experiments and evaluation of results. The postdoctoral researcher is also expected to deliver written and oral presentations of the project in English. He/she will also be actively involved in common duties in the laboratory, and supervise students when appropriate.
The position is offered for 2 years initially, with a 6 months trial period.
Applicants are expected to be highly motivated, experienced and interactive researchers. They should also have a solid practical and theoretical knowledge of chromosome biology, and expertise in terms of genetic and molecular biological methods and techniques. This knowledge must be documented in the form of published scientific articles. Detailed knowledge in transcription regulation, DNA topology and/or the use of yeast models are considered as an asset.
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.
An employment application must contain the following documents in English or Swedish:
The application is to be submitted through the MyNetwork recruitment system.
