Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för biovetenskaper och näringslära, Menendez- Benito (VMB)

The Department of Biosciences and Nutrition performs research and education in several areas of medical science including bioorganic chemistry, molecular endocrinology, cancer biology, functional genomics, systems biology, epigenetics, structural biochemistry, cellular virology, and nutrition. It offers an excellent international research and working environment, including around 300 scientists, students, administrative and technical personnel. The Department resides in the new biomedical research building Neo, aimed at being a creative and open environment that enables meetings, synergies, and exploration of areas of mutual interest across disciplines.

Division/Research Group
The position is placed in the research group of Victoria Menéndez-Benito at the Department of Biosciences and Nutrition. The Menendez-Benito lab explores the molecular mechanisms of centrosome inheritance and its role in asymmetric cell division. We use a combination of proteomic, genetic, and microscopy approaches and two main model organisms: budding yeast and human cell lines.

The main task of the postdoc will be to develop and apply new tools to visualize and  separate mother and daughter centrosomes. He/she will take a strong lead in this research project and engage in the experimental design, data generation, analysis and interpretation of the results. In addition, he/she will participate and contribute to on-going research projects from other members of the lab.

The applicant should:

  • Hold a PhD in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or Biomolecular Chemistry.
  • Have previous experience in working with centrosomes and relevant techniques, including yeast culture, human cell culture, confocal microscopy and protein biochemistry.
  • Have a high personal drive and motivation
  •  The ability to interact well with others in the research group will be taken into account.

We put great emphasis on personal suitablity.
