Division
The Biomaterials and Regenerative Medicine division at the Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics department at the Karolinska Institute invites applications from outstanding candidates for starting a new independent lab (Assistant Professor equiv.). We are looking for a creative person to join our scientific environment as an independent assistant professor with a 5 year contract and a considerable start-up package. We are interested in individuals that are highly motivated and that aim to establish world-leading research labs with a clear technological focus incorporating biological/medical research questions. 

There is an ongoing effort at the Karolinska Institute to strengthen the connection between basic biological-, and medical-research on one hand - and technology and methods development on the other. The division for Biomaterials at the Dept. of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics is in the focus of this effort

Duties
We are looking for applicants with a strong post-doc background preferably within one of the following fields: bioengineering, synthetic biology, novel imaging techniques, novel structural biology or biophysics techniques, molecular engineering, systems biology. The position is foremost intended as the start of an independent career and a PhD date not earlier than 5 years back will be considered meriting.  

The position comes with a significant start-up package, and in addition, the funding climate in Sweden for starting researchers is currently very favorable, and a person with a good track-record will have the possibility to attract considerable funding.

A successful applicant will preferably start working in 2018 but the exact timing and details of the position is open for discussion and will depend on the applicant. The division is situated at the new first class facilities at the new Biomedicum lab, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Assistant professor if he or she has been awarded a Degree of Doctor or has achieved the corresponding scientific competence. The persons appointed should primarily be the ones who have been granted a Degree of Doctor or have reached the corresponding competence no more than seven years before the end of the application period.
