The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2017 of 470 million SEK. It comprises eight divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division

The Division of Physiotherapy conducts education at basic and advanced levels, research education and research within physiotherapy. Approximately 60 teachers/researchers and administrators are employed and some 20 doctoral students registered. The division is in an expansive phase regarding education as well as research.

Duties

We are looking for a qualified senior lecturer/associate senior lecturer with a strong commitment to lead and develop both education and research with a focus on physical activity for prevention and treatment of chronic diseases as well as behavioural medicine. In the position as a senior lecturer / associated senior lecturer you are expected to develop and strengthen the education and research within this area. The duties also include teaching, course responsibilities, examinations and academic supervision in basic and advanced level education. Swedish is the language used in first cycle physiotherapy education hence good proficiency in Swedish is required. You should actively conduct research within the area of physical activity and behavioural medicine focusing on people with chronic diseases.

The position may to be associated with a clinical assignment within Stockholms läns landsting.

Entry requirements

All senior and associate senior lecturers at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. A PhD is a basic requirement. The applicant should also be close to achieve, or have the qualifications equivalent of a docent at KI. The employment is announced as Senior lecturer, but in the event that no candidate fulfills the Senior Lecturer/Docent criteria, the top candidate can be employed as Associate Senior Lecturer with a possible conversion to Senior Lecturer once the set criteria have been accomplished. The successful application for Docentur must have been submitted within three years from commencing the employment as Associate Senior Lecturer, for the possible conversion to take place. The qualification requirements for Associate Senior Lecturers are a Degree of Doctor and good pedagogical credentials as defined by the Regulations for Docentur at KI (including 5 weeks of training in university-level teaching and 120 hours of teaching).

The applicant should have a degree in Physiotherapy and clinical experience as a physiotherapist. The position requires university pedagogical training; documented experience in coordinating education, course leadership, teaching and supervision in Physiotherapy and pedagogical developmental projects. Experiences with web based teaching and teaching using information communication technology (IKT) as well as teaching in scientific methods are merits. You should actively conduct research within the area of physical activity for prevention and treatment of diseases and behavioural medicine. The position further involves internal and external collaborations and we will therefore highly value team working skills and experience in working in/towards national and international committees in both research and teaching. Employment also involves contribution to the division’s doctoral education, research and the development of the academic leadership.

The work tasks may change over time and will be designed and adapted based on the applicant’s qualifications and interests but also to the needs of the division.

The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: educational expertise (3), research expertise (2), leadership development and collaboration expertise (2), clinical expertise (1).
