Karolinska Institutet, Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics, Vascular Biology

The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics conducts multidisciplinary research in biomedicine with a total of approximately 350 employees. The Division of Vascular Biology http://ki.se/en/mbb/research-division-of-vascular-biology provides an international and interactive environment with a broad repertoire of high-end equipment and technology.

The research associate is expected to perform leading and independent research in the area of vascular biology with emphasis on mechanisms of vascular morphogenesis in development and pathology. The research associate is expected to lead a research team and to acquire funding to support his/her activities. In addition teaching in Biochemistry is required.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible to be appointed Senior Research Fellow if they have been awarded a Degree of Doctor or have achieved the corresponding scientific competence, as well as documented research after publicly defending their doctoral thesis corresponding to qualification as Research Associate. The candidate is expected to have an excellent scientific track record with several first and senior author publications in well-renowned Journals in life sciences. In addition the candidate should have attracted significant competitive funding as an independent research group leader. The overall qualifications should be at the level of associate professor (Docent in Swedish) as defined by Karolinska Institutet.

Bases of assessment
Selection criteria include scientific excellence, originality, ability to retrieve external funding, teaching experience at the under- and postgraduate level as well as experience of leading a research group. Expertise in the following areas is required: Live imaging utilizing transgenic mouse models as well as differentiating embryonic stem cells and analyses thereof, analyses of the blood brain barrier integrity, genetic mouse models of vascular anomalies and angiogenesis.
