The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics (MBB) conducts a broad spectrum of biomedical research and education within medical biochemistry and biophysics. Presently our department consists of 11 research divisions with a total of approximately 300 employees.

We are looking for a highly motivated Research manager/Scientific coordinator for a position in Thomas Helleday’s group at MBB. We offer an exciting and fast-paced translational research environment covering basic science, drug discovery and development as well as clinical trials.

Description of research group
Our research vision, in the Helleday Laboratory, is to use the discoveries from our basic research programmes on oxidative damage and DNA repair to help identify and validate novel anticancer targets and facilitate the discovery of new treatments. Our multidisciplinary research group is located at Science for Life Laboratory and includes PhD students, postdocs and senior scientists within biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, and pharmacology, many with experience from the pharmaceutical industry. We are now seeking a Research Manager/Scientific Coordinator to join the Helleday lab at SciLifeLab, KI. The role is varied and includes maintaining and acquiring sufficient research funds as well as ensuring the general smooth running of the group. Specific tasks include (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Identification of funding opportunities and coordination of grant applications
  • Writing research grant applications together with Thomas Helleday and other group members
  • Preparation of scientific reports, e.g. for funding bodies
  • Preparation of scientific manuscripts
  • Maintenance of the Helleday website and blog
  • Personnel recruitment and staff welfare
  • Liaising with relevant departmental support staff as well as internal and external collaborators
  • Organisation of travel arrangements, meetings and scientific workshops
  • Invoice and budget management and financial reporting (with support from MBB)

Entry requirements:
The successful candidate must have the following skills:

  • University-level knowledge in life sciences
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Complete fluency in both written and spoken English and Swedish
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisational skills
  • Flexible and collaborative team worker
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

It is an advantage if the candidate has previous experience of administrative work in an academic environment, knowledge of DNA repair and cancer biology, experience in patenting and/or personnel management.
