Department of Microbiology, Tumor and Cell Biology (MTC) at Karolinska Institutet conducts research and teaching in immunology, infection biology, cell biology and cancer. MTC has about 430 active employees, including 100 PhD students, 50 postdoctoral researchers and 26 professors. Key words the Department are multidisciplinary, bridging, translational, national and international collaborations.

Division

The division the postdoctoral research fellow will work within focuses on mechanisms that determine bacterial infection pathogenesis, notably during persistent infections using the bacterium Salmonella enterica as model.

Duties

The tasks will include propagation and handling of pathogenic bacteria, basic molecular biological methods, infection models, large-scale sequencing and accompanying data handling and statistical analysis thereof. It is to be noted that infection experiments and isolation of nucleic acids will be conducted at Umeå University.


Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances.

Apart from general requirements, more specified requisites include practical experience in isolation handling nucleic acids (DNA, RNA, mutagenesis, PCR and molecular cloning, large scale sequencing and data handling), isolation and analysis of proteins (gel electrophoresis, blotting techniques), practical skills in infecting eukaryotic cells, as well as proven ability to produce, or contribute to, accepted research reports published in well reputed scientific journals.

Good language skills in English is also a requirement.
