Karolinska Institutet, Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society

The Department of Neurobiology Care Sciences and Society comprises 11 divisions and has about 500 employees. The NVS-department is located at KI Campus-Huddinge. The Department is responsible for education at basic and advanced levels, research education and clinical and experimental research within the different areas represented by the divisions.

Division
The division of occupational therapy has a faculty of approximately 30 scholars as well as clinical and administrative staff and approximately 20 doctoral students. We have a broad international network within both research and education. The division strives to conduct high level research within occupational therapy, occupational science, and in a broader perspective health science research.  Furthermore, the division commits to delivering education with excellence on all levels (occupational therapy entry-level bachelor), (occupational therapy masters), as well as methods or concepts courses on the doctoral level. The division also provides contracted courses targeting professionals or others. In all our activities we strive to take part in developing knowledge increasing participation and health for individuals as well as groups and collaboration with society as a core in all activities.

Duties
We are now seeking 1-2 senior lecturers/ associate senior lecturers who can demonstrate a strong engagement in developing occupational therapy and occupational science scholarship at Karolinska Institutet.  In your role as senior lecturers/ associate senior lecturer you will strengthen the ties between education and research within the field, design and implement education activities such as course leadership, examinations, and supervision on the bachelor, masters, and doctoral level. Curricular development and general administration are also part of regular working tasks.   In this role, there will be an opportunity to grow as an educator and scholar within a creative and ambitious faculty/research group. It is particularly important to have the potential to actively engage educational practice with emerging externally financed research. It is of merit to have a demonstrated interest in leadership.

Entry requirements
All senior lecturers at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. A PhD is a basic requirement. A senior lecturer is expected to have competence equivalent to that of a docent at KI. The employment is announced as Senior lecturer, but in the event that no candidate fulfills the Senior Lecturer/Docent criteria, the top candidate can be employed as Associate Senior Lecturer with a possible conversion to Senior Lecturer once the set criteria have been accomplished. The successful application for Docentur must have been submitted within three years from commencing the employment as Associate Senior Lecturer, for the possible conversion to take place. The qualification requirements for Associate Senior Lecturers are a Degree of Doctor and good pedagogical credentials as defined by the Regulations for Docentur at KI (including 5 weeks of training in university-level teaching and 120 hours of teaching).

The applicant should have a doctoral degree in occupational therapy, occupational science, or comparable and clinical experience as an occupational therapist. In addition the candidate should have equivalent to at least 10 weeks of university level education theory and methods as well as documented experiences in an array of teaching/learning activities and supervision on undergraduate and graduate levels.

In the assessment of the application, weight will be given to the educational and scientific portfolio as well as that the candidate has demonstrated an interest in leadership. The evaluation of the educational portfolio will take into account planning, carrying through, and redesigning curricular activities as well as supervision and examinations. The evaluation of the scientific portfolio will take into account research within the subject area of occupational therapy and occupational science as well as a broad base with both qualitative and quantitative research design and methods. Leadership is a merit and can consist of demonstrating excellence in growing an organization, management of human resources, experience administrating external research funding, and ability to collaborate. The clinical portfolio is evaluated based on contributions to occupational therapy practice. The work tasks will be tailored to some degree based on the applicant’s competencies and interests as well as the organization’s needs. This can also evolve and change over time.

The assessment will weight qualifications as follows: educational expertise (3), research expertise (2), leadership, development and collaboration expertise (2), clinical expertise (1).
