Karolinska Institutet, Institutionen för neurobiologi, vårdvetenskap och samhälle

The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2017 of 470 million SEK. It comprises eight divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

The section of Family Medicine and Primary Care has an ongoing project aiming to identify novel aspects of the interplay between the kidney and the cardiovascular system using large scale proteomics data in several different cohorts.

We will apply proteomics in blood samples from large community-based and patient cohorts to study the etiology, risk and consequences of renal and cardiovascular diseases. The candidate is expected to have a strong drive to independently pursue proteomics research, including statistical analyses, bioinformatics and manuscript drafting. The project is a collaborative effort with several national and international research groups, and good collaborative skills are necessary. Good ability in written and oral English is required and candidates are expected to have at least a basic understanding of common cardiovascular pathologies and their characteristics in the population. The candidate is expected to participate in initiating, leading, implementing and writing up projects. It is expected that candidates are able to identify relevant research questions in renal and cardiovascular medicine that can be addressed by proteomics studies.

Entry requirements
A person is eligible for a position as Postdoctoral Researcher if he or she has obtained a PhD no more than seven years before the last date of employment as postdoc. The term can be extended under special circumstances. A PhD in cardiovascular epidemiology, molecular epidemiology or similar topic is required. The final candidate needs to have strong experience of working with omics data such as proteomics or metabolomics (including risk modelling, meta analyses, bioinformatics and Mendelian Randomization). Clinical experience as a doctor is an advantage given the translational aim of the project. Good skills in R, STATA and/or UNIX/LINUX are essential. A proven track record of diligent, timely academic work and publications in the field are an advantage. International experience is an advantage.
