The Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society (NVS) conducts world leading research in aging, dementia, epidemiology and care sciences. This research extends from basic molecular and cell levels to clinical research and societal studies. NVS educates almost a third of KI students at basic and advanced levels. The Department has approximately 450 employees and a revenue 2017 of 470 million SEK. It comprises eight divisions, located at Campus Flemingsberg and Campus Solna.

Division for Neurogeriatrics consists of 12 research groups with a total of 110 employees including 23 doctoral students, and is part of the Center for Alzheimer Research at Karolinska Institutet. The research focus is pre-clinical as well as clinical aspects of neurodegenerative disease mechanisms and therapeutic strategies.

We are looking for a senior scientist with a broad research experience in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer disease. The applicant is expected to conduct research regarding cellular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration with the aim to bring identified target molecules into drug development. The position includes supervision of PhD students and postdocs as well as teaching at graduate and postgraduate levels.

Entry requirements
All professors at Karolinska Institutet must demonstrate scientific as well as pedagogical competence. The eligibility requirements for appointment as a professor at KI are specified in the "Appointment procedure for teachers at Karolinska Institutet"

We are looking for a person with a strong profile in cellular mechanisms with solid expertise from in vitro and in vivo models of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Expertise on eg cell death pathway analysis as well as experience from assay development and drug screening are of merit. Experience from international and national collaborations and a strong publication record in the last ten years, as well as documented ability to obtain external grant funding and conduct doctoral education are required.

The position also requires strong experience in leadership, management and networking, as the position is focused on developing a strategic research area at NVS.

The applicant must have completed formal studies in university level teaching.
