A doctoral position is an available doctoral education project to which a PhD student is to be recruited. After the selection process the process for admission to doctoral education will commence. An admission decision will not be taken until an individual study plan has been approved by the departmental admission board.

The Dermatology and Venereology unit is located at the Center for Molecular Medicine, Karolinska University Hospital.
The Unit for Molecular Medicine at the Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) is a nationally leading and internationally competitive environment for studies of tissue inflammation with ample interaction between groups interested in different aspects of basic and applied molecular and cellular immunology. The Eidsmo laboratory offers an international and interdisciplinary research environment, where collaborative efforts are expected. The laboratory offers state-of-the art cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry facilities.
The doctoral education project and the duties of the student
In healthy skin, tissue resident T cells form an efficient barrier against recurrent pathogens but these cells also participate in localized tissue pathology. This doctoral project will focus on human tissue resident T cells in both healthy and diseased skin and is a continuation of an established project (Cheuk et al. Immunity 2017). The doctoral student will be immersed in a successful, interdisciplinary collaboration between main supervisor Dr. Liv Eidsmo and co-supervisors Dr. Yenan Bryceson, HERM, Karolinska Institutet, Dr. Keira Melican, Neuroscience Karolinska Institutet and Dr. Marcus Ehrström, Reconstructive Surgery Karolinska University Hospital, all Stockholm, Sweden. We seek a highly motivated student interested in tissue immunology, wishing to pursue a PhD in medical science. The studies will include work on patient material, cell lines and primary skin-derived cells. The work also includes animal model systems and handling of laboratory animals. Methodology will range from advanced cell sorting to cutting-edge molecular and imaging techniques.
